French Family Blog

I thought it would be fun to have a place where we could all share our thoughts, our weeks and our photos... (and I wanted to try this out before using it in my classes next year!)

I win!

Ok, according to weather.com, we all had a bit of warm weather yesterday. But the winner, with 112 degrees, was yours truly. So no more whining!
Here are the stats:
Morro Bay: 93 degrees (record high)
Ashland/Medford: 106 degrees (ties the record high)
Montrose: 112 degrees (record high)

The weekend has had its ups and downs. On Friday, I attended Foothill Summer Theatre's opening night of Grease. Why, you ask? Because it was the 25th anniversary of the company! Now that's a way to make me feel old... Craig, Sheila and I attended and reminisced over the pictures posted in the lobby. Here we are with Barry Silverman, Marlys Marsteller and Melinda Gilman - the original founders...

Saturday, of course, was spent trying to avoid the heat. The power went out at my place (and in the rest of the neighborhood) about 4:30 in the afternoon, but fortunately I left for a birthday party at 5:15. The power was back on when I got back. The birthday party was spent in Burbank at nice restaurant followed by blacklight bowling. Fun! Since I haven't bowled in years, breaking 100 was a notable achievement!

Then the bummer: getting home, I scraped my car on a wooden post pulling into my carport. USAA, anyone? Today is another attempt to avoid the heat (I'll be swimming this afternoon, hopefully, followed by some time in the movie theater (Monster House and maybe some other flick?)

So that's it. A typical SoCal summer weekend. Hope everyone else is managing to stay cool! And the packages are in the mail...

It's Finally Done!

Ok, so here's a quick post to my new website - I'll probably update it for my classes in the fall. But for now, it's just for us! And the movie I have posted will be in the mail as a DVD in the next couple of days...

Click on the picture for the link to my web page. Then navigate to the Movie page. The movie's about 18 minutes long (and obviously, mostly pictures of our favorite 3-year-olds! You'll all be getting a DVD version as well, to enjoy in full size...

By Popular Demand...

Ok, since some people just can't wait for the finished video, here are a few pictures of the twins from the Ashland trip...

You're just going to have to wait for more! :-)

And Dad, hope the fasting is going well. I'm sending positive thoughts your way...

Sing along with Pappy

I'm going to be taking the following Summer School course at SOU starting next week:

The Politics of Mass Media

Examines the impact of politics on the development of mass media and the influence of mass media on political development. Offers a critical analysis of historic and contemporary American mass media treatment of political actors and events in the U.S. and around the world. Topics include partisan, ideological, and corporate biases in the press; the political relevance of “entertainment” programming; the development of “investigative reporting;” and the emergence of Web-based political publications as challengers to the dominance of traditional electronic and print media.

Should be interesting and the course curriculum is going to be on a web page. (I'll let you know if it's available.) If it proves to be worthwhile, I'll keep an updated post here as to progress....

The Times They Are 'A Changing...

I ran across this article today on a new magnet program for some high schools in Maryland. Who would have thought 10 years ago we'd be preparing our students for careers in Homeland Security?

Other than that, it's been a busy week back in SoCal. I've been getting my computer up and running (installing all the old PC programs that I need for class, and working on the Ashland Video). Hopefully I'll have something to show by next week. I know the fans are on the edge of their seats...

And a belated Happy Birthday to Becky! Sorry I didn't call. Hope it was a great one!

That's all for now. Hope everyone's doing well!
