I thought it would be fun to have a place where we could all share our thoughts, our weeks and our photos... (and I wanted to try this out before using it in my classes next year!)

Instructions for properly hugging a baby

ATTENTION ALL DOGS!!!

THE FOLLOWING ARE IMPORTANT INSTRUCTIONS FOR EVERY DOG TO KNOW

Instructions for properly hugging a baby.

1. First, spy a baby.

2. Second, be sure that the object you spied was indeed a baby by employing classic sniffing techniques. If you smell baby powder and the wonderful aroma of wet diapers this is indeed a baby.

3. Next you will need to flatten the baby before actually beginning the hugging process. **Note: The added slobber should help in future steps by making the "paw slide" easier.

4. The "paw slide" - Simply slide paws around baby and prepare for possible close-up.

5. Finally, if a camera is present, you will need to execute the difficult and patented "hug smile and lean" so as to achieve the best photo quality.
A friend sent me these pictures - pretty cute, huh?

Quite a Week!

First of all:
Happy Birthday, Mom!
I hope Dad's taking you out to an amazing restaurant tonight...

Ok, it's been quite a week this week. Returning to classes after the semester break, I already felt behind. I had some friends over for the Super Bowl on Sunday, so I didn't quite finish everything I wanted before classes on Monday...

Next, one of my former students, William Wagner, passed away on Tuesday night. He was the class of 2004, so he was a junior in college at Claremont McKenna. His younger brother Jeff is in my AP Calculus class this year. Will was a fantastic student and person. And his brother is also a great kid. His brother has been coming to school and playing the whole thing very low key. But he's got a great group of friends to support him. The memorial service is this Sunday afternoon at the college. Immediately after the service I'm supposed to be in Pasadena to see a few of our faculty in a dance performance at the Pasadena Civic Center...

It was especially strange for me, because on Wednesday I had three other students miss my classes to attend funerals. Not exactly cheerful.

To counterbalance the sadness, it was Teacher Appreciation Week down here. Each teacher is assigned a "secret appreciator" from the Student Senate. On Monday, the faculty was treated to a Mexican lunch - yum! Wednesday, the Student Senate hired a masseuse to give 10-minute massages. Aaaahhh! And today we were treated to bagels and fruit for breakfast. At various times during the week, my secret student delivered a starbucks gift card, a Kenny Chesney CD, and some Hershey's chocolate. It turns out it was one of my Precalculus students (another girl I think is amazing!) Have I told you how much I'm enjoying my students this year? ;-)

Anyway, here is the note she gave me with my last gift:

I'm In The Jail House Now

Okay, okay - we know its the day after Turkey Day but Barney felt when opportunity knocks, take advantage! While Dad was out making a quick deposit at the Bank for Kiwanis, Barney thought his office was the place to be! Dad's chair was conveniently facing the bookshelf where extra Halloween candy was stored on the second highest shelf - yep! You guessed right - a quick jump and he was in dog heaven! Well, when Dad returned within 10 minutes, his wrath was something to behold and it frightened Barney to retreat under the table or should I say jail? Can you believe it? Do you think he will learn? Stay tuned.......

Turkey Day!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Well, we all met up this morning to pass out Thanksgiving dinners to the homeless at Central Park in Pasadena, but by the time we arrived, they had more volunteers than they needed! Which certainly says something nice about the people in the community...

So after a brief stint in the playground, we headed back home for lunch and naptime. I did manage to snap a few pictures, though...

I'm sorry we couldn't all be together today, but I am truly thankful for the love we all share...
